Committee Overview
The General Assembly Fourth, the Special Political and Decolonization Committee,
was originally formed for the specific purpose of dealing with the issue of
colonization and pursuing the right to self-determination. However, since the
creation of the Committee, GA 4 has expanded to dealing with issues that pertain
to peoples of former colonies. Therefore, GA 4 can, and often does, overlap into
political, economic, and social issues that are dealt with by other committees.
Like most other committees, it cannot pass binding resolutions, but often gives
and takes advice.
