Committee Overview
The United Nations General Assembly Plenary (GA Plenary) is essentially the General Assembly as a whole. This body will be dealing with various issues that are not allocated to specific interest committees as well as reform of the UN. The purpose of this pody can best by summed up by scope of the UN in its charter as the maintenance of international peace and the establishment of human rights. The GA plenary is responsible for discussing and debating issues pertaining to these general principles whereupon, after a vote, they can offer recommendations on the subject as a unified body. The plenary is comprised of all 192 UN member states, each of which has one vote to cast on the debate topics. Resolutions are passed by a majority of voting members, however, "designated important issues, such as recommendations on peace and security...,require a two-thirds majority". It is important to remember that the plenary's resolutions are non-binding, but that is not to say they are useless. They represent the collective will of all voting member states, and are an accurate depiction of the majority of the world's view on certain topics. Although each nation only has one vote, this committee will allow two delegates per country to attend.
